October 2006 Artwalk

Artist: Caryn Badgett

"I paint in oil on rabbit skin glue gesso. The surface is scratched, sanded and polished. Layers of paint are brushed on, burnished in, erased and scraped away. This process is repeated, developing the surface, allowing structure to emerge, solidify, break down and emerge again.

I am interested in the processes of nature, as well as its forms and moods. Markings of paint, etched line and the obliteration and re-establishment of the same, weave a structure of time and process. Lines branch, meander, stop and flow. Objects become worn, edges fray, eroded forms breathe and it feels very human"
